Flippant Rhythm, aka Gareth James and Matt Luccock, are based in Manchester. Their style is soulful and uplifting house, they know their crowd and they're a talented up&coming DJ duo.

Their professional career started in 1999 with a DJ competition at the popular student night Blessed @ Republic Sheffield (Home of Gatecrasher). They surged through the heats playing their bass heavy funky house and winning over both the crowd and the judges. By the final the duo had re-named themselves the “Flippant Rhythm Boyz”… (It sounded good on a heavy night out listening to Sanchez at Bed, they say).

At the final a promoter spotted them and invited them to play at his “Rhythmic” events in Wales, followed by more gigs in Wolverhampton, back to Sheffield to the Fez Club and to Bed. The experience gained over the 6 months since the comp was immense and Gareth got to warm up for some big names including Paul Bleasedale (Cream) and Rocky and Diesel.

Since 2000 their reputation has developed locally, focusing on Manchester… their main residency was and still is with One Desire Promotions, who continue to populate the local clubs with discerning music lovers from all over the region. (Eddie Halliwell had a regular slot at the same club at Elemental, playing funky house).

More opportunities opened through One Desire, and they hold residencies at Love Happy (in association with The Redlite at Sankeys Soap) and had guest spots at the world renowned Angel Deelite (no1 club in the North according to DJ Mag).

They are also resident at the monthly Hacienda Revival in Lancaster, where they play the 2hr warm up sets for ex-Hacienda djs Tom Wainwright, Graeme Park and Marshall Jefferson.

Other projects have included guest mixes on Manchester’s newest dance radio show “Liquid” on ALL FM, The Rhythmic Show on Maeldwyn Radio and London Live and Direct Internet Radio.
