Mistress Mo
DJ, promoter and independent record shop owner.
|
Mistress Mo began her
dj'ing career in 1994 at various clubs in and around the Birmingham
area including residencies at SLAG and Crunch, but broadened
her horizons in 1997 by signing up with the UK's first all female
dj tour, "A Gift from the Gods". Alongside Es Paradis resident,
Miss Bisto, Godskitchen legend Emma Frisco and
Milk & 2 Sugar's own Miss Jools, Mo toured the country
playing gigs from Aberdeen to Exeter, rocking crowds with her hard
but funky sound. All the girls were featured on a full page in Mixmag
every month and rocked-it at over 50 gigs nationwide in one year.
With residencies at Bakers, Crunch and Adrenaline,
Mo has happily played alongside Fergie, Mark EG, Lisa
Lashes and Lisa Pin-Up to name but a few and has also played
back-to-back sets with Charlotte Birch and Sarah G.
As well as being a talented dj technically, and an enthusiastic crowd-pleaser,
Mistress Mo is also a household name across the Midlands as resident
dj and promoter of the legendary night, Flashback.
Running bi-monthly, this event pulls crowds of over 2500 and she plays
sets to her loyal fans in both the hard house and old skool arenas.
Mo's house style is hard but funky, fast but uplifting. Steering away
from the typical hoover sound, Mo's sets include hard trance, dirty
techno stabs and rumbling basslines. As resident at one of the country's
biggest old skool nights, Mo also plays all kinds of retro sets, from
early '90's house to breakbeat '92 hardcore, early drum n' bass and
classic house anthems.
Recognition for Mo's work recently has led to a full diary and gigs
for the likes of Slammin' Vinyl, Sundissential,
Hysteria, Storm and Blue.
When not out dj'ing, Mo's time is taken up with her shop, Old Skool
Daze in Birmingham, selling event tickets, tapes and old skool
records.
An extremely experienced and reliable dj, she keeps one eye constantly
on the crowd and you know there's enough in her bag to keep everyone
happy! |
