Reckless, the Saturday afternoon club event held on Broad Street appears to be on hold after the following was posted by DJ TJ Hooker on the God's Kitchen web board on 24th. January.

At the moment reckless is on hold.... We are currently looking at a few new venues and are looking to change the opening times to suit where these venues are located.. More will be revealed when we have secured the venue we have in mind... but until then we are keep our cards very close to or chests........ Reckless will be back bigger and better than ever.....

Review: Sundissential @ Pulse 2, Birmingham. The Re-Opening on 24th. January 2004

One of my favourite comedians was Tommy Cooper, a big, funny-looking man who included a magic routine in his act. Part of the fun was watching to see whether he would cock-up the trick, as it often looked as though he would, but often as not he wouldn't and he'd pull off an amazing feat of magic, "just like that".

Well, I went to the re-opening of Sundissential last Saturday wondering whether this time it would all go Pete Tong and, to my amazement, found that they'd pulled it off again, "Just like that". Even more surprisingly perhaps was the fact that for me this was the best Sundissential I'd been to in YEARS! Better than Cobarna, by miles. Better than The Academy. Better than The Sanctuary. Better than DNA. The club had last been at Pulse four years ago, and it really did have the old atmosphere back again. For me, and I hazard a guess, for most people too, that was the most important thing. There were plenty of niggles of course - but the management had had literally only days to get the venue into shape for the opening, and there were volunteer helpers who were at the opening in the paint spattered jeans they'd been wearing earlier in the day. Some things needed improving, but they were all clearly things which could and would be improved, and frankly had the venue been perfect but the atmosphere not there, then people would have been disappointed. As it was, it was Sundissential as I remember it: the right kind of people, having a very happy time, having fun, and being one of the friendliest crowds on the face of the planet.

The venue has two rooms one for Funkissential and one for hard dance. I stayed in the latter so really can't comment on the music in the Funkissential room, though I know that was busy, (as was the whole club), and I recall being told that DJ Wez Marx, who was playing in the Funkissential room, got a shout out on Radio 1's Essential Selection earlier that night.

The hard room was graced by a superb line-up which, with only one exception, lived-up to its promise, and then some. Strange Dave played an excellent warm-up set, Steve Thomas played a wonderful and evocative Sundissential Classics set and Ian M then blew the roof off with a superb driving techno set. The exception was, well, I'd say the uniform opinion I canvassed could be summed up as "awful" - what seemed often to be a pre-programmed set of "Stop-Start Techno, with the emphasis on "Stop", which paid little attention to the dancefloor, and the inertia it was creating there. But Strange Dave, Steve Thomas and Ian M more than compensated for that lacklustre performance, and everyone was otherwise in such a good mood that it hardly seemed to matter.

Overall, I doubt the re-opening could have gone much better. The club was full, the music was great, the people superb, and everyone I spoke to then and afterwards had had a very enjoyable time. Well done Sunnies. Keep it up!

Review: Riot! @ The End, London, Sunday 25th January 2004

We’ve heard it a million times before, yet I will say it again, with no less enthusiasm than the last – Riot! continues to be one of the top events in London!

Voted the event of the month (twice may I add) in Mixmag in the year 2003, and the party still shows no signs of stopping!
Many attendees would have stayed out the whole weekend, with this being their 3rd or 4th event, still managing to drag their slightly un- able bodies along for a boogie. Others may stay in all weekend, until the Sunday arrives and they go fresh faced and clear head, and there are those who go from the faithful ‘word – of – mouth’ factor. Whichever reason they attend, it has always been difficult to sum up the crowd in one stereo – type; DJs, Promoters, Producers, dancers, clubbers, ravers, reviewers, gay, straight, bi, swingers, young, old (er), yet all very genuine in attitude.

The floors of both the hard dance and funky room, are splashed with folk who are all there for the same fundamental reason: to have a bloody good time!

For those that have never been to The End, it’s a delight! With big comfy sofa’s in the Bar Room (hosted by The Ignition Crew & Cheshire Cats on this occasion), nicely sized tables, and a good view of the DJ box, it’s guaranteed that at some point during the event (running from 3 pm – late on the last Sunday of every month, yes you will get paid then) you’ll be scratching your head wondering which room you wish to locate yourself in...

A large archway provides the structure for the larger rooms holding the hard dance beats, with a comfortable look into the DJs at work situated almost in the middle of the room, surrounded by clean floors. DJs Danny Gilligan, Shan, Ting, Ed Real and B.K provided perfect entertaining sets that literally rip up the dance floor, you can’t get much better than this!

Clean toilets, toilet attendants, cigarette machine, and reasonably priced drinks, an absolute bargain at a mere £6 on concessions Guest list. With shops close by, car park opposite, and several pubs for before / after drinking, it’s like finding a new home with all the perfect facilities surrounding it.

So, with several factors ticked off the checklist, with large enthusiastic attitude, the music WOW factor is always constant and dirty as hell. At no point can you honestly say you’re bored, you have to tap your feet or nod your head at the very least! Ed Real, Element 7 and the Riot! Crew should pat themselves on the back with every given chance to have provided such an enjoyable set of events on a consecutive basis.

If you have never been; go! If you have been; go again! And once you're there; GTFRI ‘coz it’ll seem a long time before the next one comes around the following month, but my, it is definitely worth the wait!

We have been told that the Camden Palace is likely to stop trading as a club at the end of February and as a result we sadly announce what is likely to be our last parties at the Palace.

Our first ever party at Camden Palace was back in April 1999 when the queue stretched from the front doors round the block and back again with 2000 people already inside and 1500 desperately trying to buy tickets.

Re-live those first sexual fumblings of secondary school life, even if it was with a fifty year old maths teacher with a beard. Mr Energy, Mr Rowland and Mr Wright are sure to bring on the euphoria of such memories with wicked hard trance and hardcore sets. Look out for the valentine’s day décor as we attempt to create a mock-up bike shed complete with cigarettes, old porn mag and pissy smell. Mister Stewart is looking forward to welcoming you again, so bring red candy lips and wear your best underwear.

Turnmills is proud to announce the exclusive World Launch Party for the new Technics CD Decks DZ1200.

On Saturday 14th February 2004, Turnmills, London will be the first club in the world to house the new CD Decks. The Grammy Award winning Deep Dish will be launching the new bit of kit on the night (with a 6 hour set) as they did with the Technics MK5G 1200 turntables earlier this summer.

The CD Decks will not go on general sale until May 2004.

This year Turnmills proudly hosted 5 huge midweek events with Technics featuring two parties from Deep Dish, plus long sets from Danny Howells, Felix Da Housecat and Satoshi Tomiie. We're now moving this prestigious Technics event onto Saturday nights beginning Feb 2004, when the night will begin a bi-monthly residency throughout the year.
